Well id have to say i love the 351 5.8l in my truck but the 302 5.0l in my dads truck is pretty dang good pretty good power but becuase of that he has lower kms on his truck than mine i have never driven a 300 before so hard to say
You can do alot more with the 302 than any other of these motors due to parts availability and as long as you arn't hauling big heavy loads, it works just fine in a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton. I will just haul PA gear.....roughly 500 lbs.....so the 302 works for me. I have also seen a 302 haul 3000 lbs of scrap before, so it can haul the big loads too, just not as well as other motors.
If I could do it all over, I would probably opt for either the 300 w/ c6 and 8.8 for reliability, simplicity etc. But, I am happy with the 302.
I personally love my 302, but I can see why the other motors are better in different applications. I love the high winder ability and the fact that I have a shortbox/reg cab/2wd 5 spd helps. I'm more about street driven vehicle ability for my truck. It didn't make sense to get a mustang or camaro for me so this was my decision. I love it.
It was hard for me to choose between the 300 and the 351. I just had to go with the 300 because of its almost legondary status with truck guys.
I have owned both,
I go for 300-6 or 302 . I found unless Im hauling every day . And I'm not that I don't mind being a little slower. When I get 3+ MPG batter the rest week .
I voted for the 351, love a v8 but have a 81 f-250 not listed in my sig that has a 300 6 in it, doesn't run. A screw that holds on the breather came out and it sucked it in and killed a cylinder. Has a replacement motor in the back of it just haven't needed the truck or had the time to put it in.
Yes the 300 6's are strong pulling motors that last and last, that is if they don't suck in a screw.
It lived most of its life as a farm hand, towed around gravity boxes with 8-10 tons of corn in em, Very heavy load to pull on soft ground. Also a 3 axle fifth wheel trailer with tractors on it and or large rolls of hay. Truck as a manual 5 speed with 1st being a granny gear.
Very tough and I bet that motor would still run today if it hadn't been for that dam screw.
my vote will have to go to the 351 my current 1996 f-250 has 306,600 miles no smoke great power and no oil comsuption and I can say i had had alot 3-351's 2-302's 2-300's 1-460 1-390 1-240 and 1-223 yep mark me down for the 351 W
my vote had to go to the 300 since the 460 wasn't on the list. My dad has a 460 in his motorhome, never had any major problems, got 8 miles a gallon pulling a 24ft trailer wish i had a 460 in a regular cab longbed. My current f-150 has a 300 with 120,000 miles, uses about a quart of antifreeze a week but other then that no problems, gets a steady 10 mpg no matter how i drive it or where i drive it. my last truck was a 85 supercab longbed had a 300, toploaded overdrive, no major problems had no clue on mileage guessing about 230,000 got 15 mpg in town and 25 on the highway.
Dude 10mpg for a 300 is REALLY low. I get 12-13 with my 351. You should look into that, some guys on this site get in excess of 20mpg with their 300's.
well my 300 six i get 19 with my foot in the throttle body and 21 or 22 driving normal but i just put a k&n on it tonight lets see how that works and my 351 i was gettin 9 all the time no matter pulling loads or driving to church but it was straight piped no cats so what can i say lol and man it sounds like you gotta bad head gasket if your using antifreeze that may be another reason your gettin bad fuel milage water and gas dont mix well at all lol
