Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me. I have a '92 7.3 F350, at first I thought it was the usuall cleaning of the battery cables or installing new batteries would do the job, new batteries still does the same. I turn the key to "Wait to start" and it doesn't light up and if it does, it doesn't last long, the starter/engine will not crank! Do you think the glow relay is the problem? On the relay I get 12.90v with the key on off position, and about only 2.10v with it on the "Wait to start position" . What I don't understand is that the whole truck doesn't light up, like the cab , radio, lights etc. Can someone tell me what's going on. Thanks! Carlo
My guess would be that the relay mounted on the passanger fender just behind the battery has burned connectors. As well check for secure connections of all the wire connections mounted on the battery post of same relay. Battery connection cables are also known to develop internal corrosion in the cable-post connection.
If the starter does does not even give you a click check the wire going from the soleniod on top of the wheelwell passengerside to the starter its a fairly thin wire and they somtime brake at the eyelit where it hooks to the starter.
bad cables. if the coating on the cables look cracked where they meet the battery terminal, they are most likely severely corroded inside. i just went through this with my 88 . new batteries, and it still just barely turned over, sometimes not enough to start. i went as far as buying a new starter. as i was getting ready to change the starter, it clicked that the cables were cracked. i put a new positive cable on, and it wings right over now, starting on the 4th or 5th revolution.
Thanks Guys for your advice, nothing on my truck lights up, there no power but batteries are good at about 12.90v. I'll be looking better into this weekend hopefully with some good news.
