Anyone have one of those canvas/metal pole one car garages? I ordered one from Canadian Tire as they were on sale for $299.00....$200.00 off regular price! It is 20'x12'x8' so hopefully the Lariat will fit, if not the wifes car will.
For anyone interested I think the sale goes to either this Friday or Saturday.
My friend just put one of those up for his lightning - the antenna rubbed the top of the door so clearance may be an issue. Another friend has a few of them and I think they placed the structure on treated 4x4's to get a bit more height. I cant remember which ones it was on, but I think one of the guys drilled holes and put 1/4 inch bolts through rather than rely on the push together tube joints. They are a pretty cost effective way to get stuff out of the weather, but beware of snow loads - it must be pushed off to avoid trouble!
definately away from the wind!! a good idea would be to make gussets to go in all the corners of the metal poles. drill some 1/4 inch holes and carriage bolt them on there for extra strength. i've been considering putting one up for the '83, but not settled on the idea yet...
Thanks for the replies fellas. I'll let you know how it works out once it comes and I get it put up. With all this wind in the SW one of you guys may find it blown into your yard someday!
And it sounds like clearance may be an issue but the idea of raising it up is good.
Thanks again
I had a chance to look at the 'Quick Structure' version (sold by Co-op and Coverall but not made by Coverall). They are about $750 for a 12 x 24 thats a bit higher. There is much more framework and a heavier cover, definitely a much better building but questionable as to which is better value. I think I would spend the extra money for the extra strength, durability, and better suited for winds and snow loads.
No comparisson in quality but over double the price. There is much heavier framing and the cover material is more durable - all depends on how much one wants to spend and how long its required.
Wel I had one here for almost 2 years. It was in the open. Even with the foot long anchors the wind finally took it about a mile away from my place. Found it in the trees and poles scattered across the feilds. In a sheltered area is not a sbad. My neighbor has 2 of them and they have lasted 4 years for him. The doors are getting wore out on his. He stores his horse buggy's in them. He also made his own anchors that go down about 2 ft. He also dug around where the bottom flap is suspose to be laying on the ground. Well he buried that so wind and varmints do not get it.
I paid $400 for mine. I would get another, but plan a different place to put it. But right now I rather put my money towards a barage for my place.
Would you say it would work well if I were to buy one of these and put it in a quonset, then put a small heater in it, do you figure that would keep me warm?
Well in the quonset out of the winds it should stay warm to work in, but not enough to do body work with filler or paint. But to do general repairs it would satify you. The heat lost would still be there, just you will work in comfort.
