Carburater or Engine?

I hope someone can help me out. Fuel is literally spraying out of the carb, enough to coat the underside of the hood above it. I thought it was getting too much pressure so I installed a regulater, but it still sprays out like a crazy when the engine cranks I just put new refurbished heads, a new intake and a new carb on my truck. It's a 75' f150 Ranger (4X4) with a 360 FE. Thanks for the help.

First of all get this fixed before driving the truck. Check the fuel lines and connections near the carb. I doubt the carb is causing this.

The only way it should be spraying out the engine is if the timing was way off or the valves were not adjusted properly. I'd also go with a cracked fuel line or hole in a hose. Is the carb used and new to you or out of a box new? What brand?

Timing, it's very easy to reinstall a distributor wrong and you only have to be out by one tooth for your problem to occur.

If he set the timing, the only thing affected by being off a tooth is the position of the distributor. If it's in there and set and he has room to adjust the timing, it's not wrong.

I have seen people connect the fuel line to the carb vent fitting. Causes the same problem Monsterstang is describing. Fuel will spray out of the bowl vent tubes, covering the underside of the hood. A stuck needle and seat can cause the same problem, and is the more likely culprit.
Good luck,

Mgraveman you have assumed that the timing is correct. From the information monsterstang has provided this truck hasn't run yet and if it did at all it wouldn't be long enough to even check it. Here are a few of the mistakes I have seen over the last 30yrs. 1)Top dead center on #1 valve lap instead of TDC #1 compression. 2)Marking rotor position then pulling distributor then try to reinstall distributor using that reference mark.90% of the time it won't work because you will have to turn the engine over far enough so that the cam will turn the distibutor far enough to line up the oil pump drive now you've lost your reference point but you assume your pretty close and you figure you compensate for that little bit by turning your distributor. 3)After having installed distributor as mentioned in #2 you time it like a GM (#5 instead of #1) and guess what, It shows TDC but it blows gas back up threw the carb.

Dont rule out the carberator. My guess it is the float that is not seating, and fuel is shooting out of the vents. try whacking the carb (gently) with a hammer, if in fact it is shooting out of the vent. If fuel still shoots out the vent, you need to take the top off (Motorcraft 2V) or take the needle and seat out(holley), or throw it away (Motorcraft 4V,) clean, adjust, replace as nescessary.
