Black box I.D.
Just when you think you've learned it all!
I found a black box under the dash. About 2"x 2" x3". It looks like it had a Ford part number but I cannot read it. It says Motorolla on it and plugs into the wiring harness. It's on the left side of the steering wheel and has a metal bracket but isn't screwed to anything.
????????

My vote is for intermitent wipers. I believe the metal plate on the box was attached the the Y shaped brace above the steering column from the factory.

Since it says Motorola, could it have been for the cb/radio?

I thought something like radio but maybe wiper delay. I;ll try to see if it goes to the switch.

No cruise control, right?
If it says Motorola, it isn't for the factory radio, because at this time Ford owned Philco. It could be the delay governor for intermittant wipers.
Was the truck originally sold new in CA? There's one more possibility if it was.
CA: the DSO code on the Warranty Plate will be either 71 or 72.

Emission Throttle Position Control - That's why I asked the OP if his 1977 truck was sold new in CA.
The parts catalog sez used on CA E150/350 & F100/350: 1975/77.
1978 and later it was used nationwide and in Canada on some engines.
1975/77: Marked: D5HF-9F441-AA or D7HF-9F441-AA.

WW delay control or throttle speed control.
I don't know if anyone figured it out yet, but my198 F350 has this box mounted under dash on the firewall just left of the radio. The numbers are:
D7HF-9F441-AA. It says below that: 8 cylinder Black Box.
I'm just curious if the truck will run without this.
I do not have cruise control.
Any help is appreciated greatly.

D7HF-9F441-AA.
D7HF-9F441-AA = D5HZ-9F441-A .. Emission Throttle Positioner Control Actuator Assy.
With/without cruise control has nothing to do with this part.
