Probably a way stupid question...

...is my F150 a metric truck?!?!?

I have had misfitting nuts and bolts, just put it off as worn/stripped heads...then I was under the truck changing and fixing things (one of my new favorite things!!! ) and noticed that the tranny pan had METRIC stamped on it.

Can there be such a thing?

Can my All-American Ol' Blue be a mm lover?

Door tag indicates US build...

I love her regardless... 7.62mm is a good example of mm, heck even 5.56 mm is pretty good number. I'll stay SAE with my trusty Kimber .45.

These trucks are a complete mix of metric and standard bolts. Just get used to test fitting every nut and bolt with both standard and metric

These trucks are a mix.... been happening for awhile now on American vehicles. My old pontiac 85 had it too and so have chrysler products. They are assembled in USA, maybe the engines too, but that is it.

Throw the 5.56 out, less rnds w/.30cal is better (You get better miles for the smaller amnt of gallons)

Stay SAE with .45 and .308 and add in a single or better a quad .50 for some more SAE action.

P.S. When you start going mm it better start at 150mm and go on up

Now your talking!

People laugh (sometimes) when they find my 'house' gun is a M4gery with light and a 30 rd mag. Less over penetration through sheetrock and studs than a .45 or even a 9mm! With Hornady TAP or other frangible round, it becomes the 'safest' home clearing weapon/ammo combo going.

The AR10 carbine is set up with a Trijicon NSN and 20 rd USGI m14 mags.
Not a good house gun!

M4 ain't bad when set up right, like you. Swat uses 5.56 because it basically explodes on hitting stuff with the right ammo no overpenetration! I would add gas piston for more reliablility though.

Ar-10, I don't remeber if its direct impingement or not. (Direct-impingement=self-fouling spark plug
If it is, get a gas piston too, unless you are ocd and like cleaning. But, that is one tricked out ar-10!

And without gas pistons ar-10 and m4 serve very well for thier intended roles

Me:

area:m1 scout squad springfield usgi 20rnd, scope varies, usually aimpoint.

loong range: Rem 700 .30/06 mcmillon stock, leupold tactical, you can guess the rest. It gets .300win mag levels without the recoil.

home defense: mossberg 590 12ga, screw overpenetration Get it done right the first shot! Nah, m4 set up like u got it is sweet for that role.

short range/self-defense: springfield mil-spec 1911 .45 all the way!

personal:two questions for you Jack Johnson and Tom Oleary plus a nice tactical knife

To be on topic: yeah umm, these trucks umm why do they have to be metric umm that is stupid ummm these are american,.... vehicles.....automobiiles, ummm moving things. Yeah........
(No hijacking thread signs for me)

Wink

They are a mix of metric and standard. Just pulled my spindles and 11/16 slipped on the nuts (taking them off) but 17mm was just a tad to tight possibly due to rust buildup. Never sure what the correct size was. Ended up tapping a 17mm wrench on and then wacking it with a hammer to get the nuts to loosen up. So just drag both metric and standard with you when crawling under the truck and you can't go wrong.

5.56 for 3 gun to stay competitive and 7.62 FAL for SHTF.

Been using bearing grease on firearms for years and just used Hoppes #9 to clean old grease from needle bearing in the spindles. Isn't it funny how guns and trucks just seem to go together.
