Anyone who's got an 04 F150 and hears a knock, don't let them tell you it's normal engine noise. I got my truck 4 months ago not knowing of the problem and when the knock came back after they fixed the cam phasers and then it also had a fast tick at 800-1000 rpm , i brought it back in , that was a month ago , although it's been forever i am getting a new motor and should be back on the road next week . SUPER STOKED !!!!You have to be a thorn in there side or they won't do f#*k all , i bet if it wasn't under an extended warranty they would have had it done in jig time.
Same here. Replaced Cam Phasers in my 04 5.4. Then still excessive noise, sounded like piston slap. They replaced the short block rebuilt the heads and at the tune of $7500 paid by Mecury Insurance I now have a quite motor. Now if I could figure out this tranny problem.
I thought I had a tranny problem too, but it ended up that the clutches in the rearend go bad in the '04's. I had them replaced twice in 30,000 miles. I now have an '06.
I also have tranny problem. intermittent slip and then clunk when it shifts from 1st to second only. Had them look at it 4 times and they still cant figure it out. will just keep taking it back.
I haven't had any tranny problems yet and the truck has 93000 KM on it but i'll guess we'll see . hope it goes soon if it's gonna i'm covered up to 163000KM . a new tranny would go nice with that motor

Wow $7500? Most engines don't cost half that. How could it be that much?

There is a TSB for the TC and the "no power" between 1& 2 shifts.
