replacing cat

I thought i read a while back that if your emission control system failed you could replace it with something other than what was there before. The reason I ask is I want to do a cat delete and this is the case I can just say my cat rusted out or something

Your excuse won't work if they really push it. If they came from the factory with a cat federal law says they need to have a cat. but chances of the DOT pushing for a cat are slim to none. They want to make sure your not over weight and your rig is safe they could really care less about emissions stuff.

I have never been checked for a CAT at the scales. They have never checked for any emissions equipment. Remember that they deal mostly with big rigs and they don't run CAT's. Delete it and drive. If you want a factory look for the delete try here: http://www.dieselperformanceparts.com/products.cfm they are a site sponsor and have the delete/test pipe that is a direct replacement for the CAT. It looks nice installed.
