Crewcab fuel pump questions

Hi,
I'm new to the forum. Seems like a lot of helpful people and good info here.
My problem is with my 2001 5.4 crewcab. I have a good idea it's the fuel pump because a couple times when it quit, we banged on the tank and it fired up.
So I jacked it up and started to undo the tank, which by the way seems to be kind of a pain to reach the wires and fuel lines. Anyway I noticed what looked like a huge pump right behind the tank up against the box, right in front of the spare tire. And that it has lines running to the tank. So before I go any further I want to make sure I'm not dropping the tank for no reason.
Also if this is not the pump and it is in the tank, is the one in the tank the only pump?
Thanks,
ScoJoh

By the way, welcome to FTE scojoh! As you can see from nranchero's pictures, replacing the pump is easy if the bed is removed. Good luck on replacing your fuel pump!
