I've got the stock 265s on my '00 Excursion with some Pirelli tires that are brand new and came with the truck when I got it. Here's my question, though. What are the best chains to get? I've looked around at the various styles. In my case, I live in a fairly rural area. My driveway is very steep and has a sharp turn in it. Last winter, I had problems getting up it with my Suburban when we had 8" of snow or more. The rest of the time I usually had <2" and it did fine, I just don't want to be in that situation this winter with my Excursion. Now, I think my Excursion has a limited slip so that will help, but I still want chains.

So, suggestions anyone?

You'll probably want to look at a set of "Z Chains". They are called that due to the zig zag pattern they make. Z chains are more friendly for driving and won't flop as much like regular chains.

It also helps to lower the tire pressure some. I've found out 4Low in snow dosn't work too well. (Too much torque to the wheels) I'm always in 4Hi unless I need to go over a snow bank.

Agree, another acquaintenance tells me to start paying more attention to load carrying limits of tires as opposed to load range.
