Ball Joint ??
I just got upper & lower ball joints replaced both sides from Ford! Got home right side leaking oil. Called Ford they said it could be exess oil from pulling the axle out! 3 days later still leaking. When back to Ford to check it out, they said the oil seal is leaking ,it's located in side the pumpkin! they said when they pulled the axles out it disturbed the seal, which they had no control over, since the truck has 93,000 miles on it! They said it's a 5hr. job to replace the seal! All the gears have to be pulled to get to the seal! I talked with others who had this done, no leakes!!! Whats up?? Am I getting ******. Or does this happen when you pull the axles???

I just did my upper and lower b-joints as well. I did mine myself and was very carefull throughout the whole process. ...To answer your Q, yes there is an outer seal but it only stops dirt and water from entering the axel tubes. The oil seals are on either side of the pumpkin. ...Just a thought if you had too much oil in the front diff or the axel wasn't level oil could have spilled into the tubes, thus causing leakage until the tubes drained. Have you checked the front diff oil level? Mine didn't leak any oil into the tubes. I vaccumed out my tubes so they were clean (rust flakes) before I put it back together. How many miles on the truck? Mine just turned 198k on original ball joints. Also wasn't in 4wd very often so the oil seals were in vg shape. I hope this helps a little.
