I have a 2002 X with a factory CD6 changer and rear seat entertainment center (RSE) and I want to install a Pioneer AVIC D3 and still maintain the current features that control the RSE and speed volume control, etc. Has anyone done the install in their superduty or X?
Why not leave the factory set up alone and put in a window mount GPS. I have the AVIC-S1 it's a great portable unit. You could switch to a different vehicle if needed also. Just an option, the other sounds like a wiring nightmare.
Good luck and let us know if you get it installed and working.
I installed the D-3 in my truck, but I don't have an RSE. If anything check out www.avic411.com. They're helpful, and many of the guys on there are installers and would probably be able to answer your questions. I'll worn you though...sometimes they seem rude, but I'm sure they can answer your questions...hopefully. Good luck.

There are interfaces that can tie "most" functions of the radio to the steering wheel control buttons and there are ones that can cater to the RSE. I have to warn ya that some of can be a nightmare to keep up with (wiring). If you're willing to try this yourself, I'd be glad to help you find/pull part numbers and models of various interface kits....finding vendors will be up to you tho... (unless the local FTE sponsor can help )
I do remember a user asking some questions on his steering wheel radio buttons and his new H/U install a few months back- it also happen to be a SD iirc. I'll see what a search turns up...

Thanks for the reply guys. My X doesn't have the wheel radio controls and I can do wiring pretty good. I hope you guys can help me navigate the AVIC install. I'm probably not the only one out there planning on doing this. Thanks again for your help.
Speed sensitive volume is a function of the radio itself, not of the vehicle, and I don't think the AVIC-D3 has it. Truthfully I don't know of very many aftermarket radios that do.
Thanks Beerstalker, but since my vehicle doesn't have steering wheel radio controls what would the module do for me? Oops, I just checked the pac website and I guess the module would allow me to wire the current harness of the RSE to the avic d3. Am I right? What dashboard kit would i have to purchase to have the d3 fit in the current opening as the CD6 radio in my truck?
