2006 radio upgrade question
I fount this stereo on craigslist, a pioneer AVIC-X850BT. It is out of a 2006 F350 so it should fit right in my 2006, plug and play. Including the steering wheel control adaptor. He want $500 for it. I am not sure if it is really worth that. The deck looks like it sold for around $650ish new. I cant tell but it looks like it has navteq maps that I don't know much about. The replacement for that deck, Pioneer AVIC-5100NEX, is about $690 and that is with the install kit and steering wheel control. What do you think? Is $500 to much for a 2-3 year old unit? To me $300 seems more realistic, but I am a CHEEP old fart.

Yes, the price for electronics drop like a stone. If you play CD's, then get the 5100NEX, but if you don't, get the 4100NEX, it's cheaper, has a larger screen, and still has a cd-player [the face tilts up with a motor to insert/remove CD's].
I've got the 4000NEX in my truck, and use my iPhone connected to it for navigation, and I'm pretty happy with it. Only things I don't like about it are: 1) siri through the radio [mic is directly connected to radio, mounted on steering wheel shaft] doesn't pick up my voice very well and 2) the lighting cable connector doesn't always seat properly in the iPhone, I need to buy a new one.

The CD-player has a limited life span in vehicles, the vibrations don't make them happy.
The navigation system may no longer be updated by the manufacturer, as the device is obsolete. This is another reason why I didn't get a dedicated nav system, everyone stops updating them after a couple of years, even the ones with 'lifetime' maps. In the fine print, 'lifetime' is how long the manufacturer thinks you should use the device before you buy another one.

Get one of these and don't look back.

Current name brand radios are garbage compared to the Android Auto units coming out of china. The possibilities are endless and all of your factory steering wheel buttons can be made to work, for no extra charge.
I have posted a video of how it works here.
