I just got my 77 running (needed a new carb) and my brake pedal is sticking down. It feels solid, like it's bled properly, but it just doesn't come back up. What is supposed to make these come back up nomally?
Might be a bad brake booster. Either that or you forgot to hook up the booster vacuum line?
I didn't look, but the booster line didn't go to the carb. The only big line going to the carb was the PCV. I had a vehicle with manual brakes and it worked fine. Also, I've never seen a vehicle that is shut off have brakes that stay down.
the booster line goes straight to manifold vacuum, should be a T at the back of the intake.. big hose, about the size of a fuel line.
I don't think that's what it is though.. but I do think there is some kind of return spring either behind, or inside of the booster. Might want to take it off and check it out if noone else who knows for sure responds anytime soon.

I was wondering if there was one in the master cylinder. I've never been inside one of those.
well i disagree. i had my old ranger's booster fill with brake fluid. now i said fill, with fluid, approx. 8 ounces. it would hole the brakes to the floor. the fluid i dumped out was rusty and i eventually replaced the master, as it leaked alot. i used to frequently refill it.
