How to clean/replace diff fluid 9"?

I bought 2 quarts synthetic 75/90 and was ready to remove the back cover on my ford 9" yesterday, and WHOOPS!! There is no back cover.

How the heck can I open this diff and clean it out and replace fluid? I wanted to make sure all trash and fluid is out of there because there is over 300K on this rear with no fluid change.

Thanks

How to:

1) Use a suction gun in the fill hole

2) loosen diff and let drain into pan

3) remove one axle and lift/tilt truck that direction and drain into pan.

This is actually a General Auto Topic.

The year has nothing to do with it .

I think it's year specific, later Ford rearends had removable covers on the back.

Most people use a suction gun to remove fluid like Mil1ion said..

but I'm sure at 300k miles you want to inspect it and make sure everything is OK, in that case you need to drop the driveshaft to the rear axle and remove the front cover.

IF you want to take a long time, and get inside the axle to make sure things are looking ok, and wipe out any metal shavings and clean it real good, then you could take both axle shafts out(about 1/2 way), pull the center section, and wipe everthing down and pull all the trash out. If you went this route, it would be a good time to change gears if you wanted....

But one on Mil1ion's ways would be a lot faster.

I have changed diff fluid on our jeep 4x4, and our 2001 silverado and you inspect the gears by removing the covers. You can also clean out all the debris on the magnet (there was a lot).

The ford 9" I have DOES NOT have a removable cover. So I figured it is year specific.

EDIT: Oops I see someone already mentioned this.
