The yoke is worth a look and that may be the problem up front but I'm thinking you have a bent range fork or something in the transfer case itself. So when you pull the shifter back from 2 hi to 4 h your engaging the front but the rear is left with no drive to it. One of the other guys that have had a case apart may be able to verify whether or not that would even be possible.

Did you try it in 4 hi and in 4 lo to see if the same thing happens?

when i went to go test it while standing still and give it some gass with the break on the front shaft will turn but the axle shafts will not turn. so i think the transfer is good cause it is turning just fine . i looked at the gears and they look good but i could be wrong i guess.

could i take the rear drive shaft off and put it in 4x4 and see if the front will take it?

So let me get this straight...

You put it in 4 hi, hold your foot on the break, hit the gas, and the ONLY THING that moves in your drivetrain is the front driveshaft...? No axle shafts or anything?

Let me ask you this... What happens if you take your foot OFF the break? Does the truck move? If so, do the front axle shafts move?

How about putting the truck up on jackstands and see what happens? Don't run it too fast, you'll risk coming off the jackstands and causing trouble.

I do that all the time, two stands under the front with the floor jack under the rear pig.
If I'm by my self I chain it to another truck so I can put it in gear and get out to look for the problem.

I get it set and then try and push it off the stands to make sure its sitting good a solid too. (On the asphalt, not the grass)

Go ahead and drop the rear drive shaft and see if it moves, it won't hurt anything. Just don't do a lot of sharp turns if it does move.

Please please please gives us more details hoderny, LOL. How many wheels off the ground? In 2wd or 4wd? Which driveshaft(s) spun? Which axle shafts spun? Where did the crunching noise come from. Tell us EVERYTHING you know.

Sounds like your transfer case is having some major issues but GIVE US MORE DETAILS!

"i looked under the truck and the transfer case was moving like crazy (shaking)"

Is it loose? The bolts holding it to the trans are they busted or coming out, both?
If not it looks like you need a new TC, even if they are loose or whatever it's probably to late for it.
Sounds like your making "steal hamburg".

Ok try this, keeping all 4 tires off the ground, do what you have to to keep the rear tires from spinning. Use the parking E brake if it works, or wrap straps around the tires on both sides and tie them to the back bumper. With it in 4 wheel drive hold your foot on the brake and start the truck and then put it in drive, ease off the brake and let it idle.

Does the front turn with the back wheels held firm from turning? Nothing up front should turn with the back wheels held from turning, if it does you have a transfer case problem.
Same thing doing it the other way around, stopping the front wheels from turning should stop the back wheels from turning.

With all the wheels off the ground everything will spin with the motor even with a problem, inertia for the most part will take everything with it and is normal.
