We have all heard the rumors that with the closing of the St. Paul plant would come the end of the ranger. It looks now like we will get at least one extra year out of the the Ranger.
The union said Ford agreed to build unspecified new vehicles at factories in Chicago; Louisville, Kentucky; Avon Lake, Ohio; and Wayne, Michigan. Also, the closing of a St. Paul, Minnesota, factory that makes the small Ranger pickup will be delayed by one year until 2009, the union said in the summary on its Web site.
Well Pablo "O" boy, I believe you will get your wish as the new ranger or F-100 will be a mid-size and will most certainly have a bigger cab. I'm glad to here that there will be at least one more year for the little truck.
Hey Ford - you might want to actually advertise that you sell the Ranger PU. Mmkay?
I honestly have never seen a Ranger commercial on TV. The hammer the heck out of the F150 and Superduties. They need to hammer the value of the Ranger product.
Hey CMOS, I live in NC and have seen at least one Ford commercial that plays all the time. It has Mike Rowe from the Dirty Jobs show and claims that the Ranger has the best gas mileage in its class at 29 mpg. It is however a generic ford commercial that has several different vehicles in it. Its at least a good start for what I believe is a great truck.
In all honesty I have seen one commercial that mentions the Ranger, and I do mean barely mentions. It was a multi-vehicel commercial and IIRC it only referenced one sentence about the Ranger. "Best mileage in a PU, the FORD Ranger.......", and that was it!
IMO, the Ranger deserves more detail than that. They're well priced in the market, and they definitely have a REP for lasting a loooooong time.
They need to keep the Ranger the way it is and open the engine compartment up a little and drop an optional 302 in there and call it the BOSS Ranger! Open with dual exhaust with flowmasters, and put a stock lift with 18" rims and 265's. The price tag would be about 28 thousand and would sell like crazy.
The only 302 ford has now will be the new 5.0 mod motor in the 09 stang. It's sohc and it's wide, fills up the whole engine bay in my GT, looks like it has a big block in there. There's a guy who post on here that has a 4.6 mod motor in the current size ranger. Tight squeez, but he did it.
"WELL YEAH", through ford racing you can get a 514 or whatever it is (a stroked 460) at 600 hp. I love the boss 302, I put one in a 70 maverick and started drag racing, I was excited when they brought the boss 302 back, but couldn't think of what to put one in. A first generation ranger would work or a 61 -65 falcon. There seems to be alot more old falcons around than pinto's according to ebay, more old falcons than old rangers for that matter.
