First off I would like to say hello to everyone, I never knew there was such an awesome website devoted solely to talking about trucks just like mine. I'm being inspired to spend way more money than I have right now. ;-) I have a 76 f-150 with a 300 inline 6 in it, it's a great engine and I love my truck but I can't drive it, the tags have expired and I can't get it to pass the visual inspection because the thermostatically controlled mechnical flapper isn't functioning properly and they won't let it pass until I can get that fixed. I tried using one from a '77 and it is entirely different(it uses vacuum instead of heat). If anyone has any ideas or knows where I can get one, I've looked in every junkyard in my area and no body has what I need, the Ford dealership here said they stopped making those old parts in the early 90's or something like that. I tried posting a want ad on this site but I haven't had any responses yet. I'm losing hope, help...

Why don't you just find a vacuum operated one & install it? The vacuum operated units are very easy to find and will fit your setup just fine. You may need to get the support bracket. I can help with the part number for the fresh air intake hose...I have the NAPA #...it wasn't easy to figure out. The only problem I can think of is maybe a different setup for the TVS going to the dump valve (if you have an air pump installed). There's no reason (that I can think of) that would prohibit you from installing the vacuum operated door type air cleaner assembly.
I actually did try the vacuum type setup, I wouldn't be suprised if I set it up incorrectly as I have no idea what it looks like and I have to example to go by. I had to remove the horn from the vacuum operated housing because the hole that goes over the carb wasnt't the right size or shape. Also the original housing is all bent up, it almost looks as though it was run over or something and has been banged out and straightened, but not enough. I don't have an air pump so I don't think what would cause any problems for your idea. I appreciate very much any information/ideas you can give me tetraruby, and everybody else.
Does anybody else have anyideas on this topic, I don't want to be annoying by bringing my own topic to the top of the board, but I really need some advice on this. Any ideas you have will be appreciated.
