Part 15 of FCC rules!! The FCC is not funded by taxpayers they only get payed if
they write out fines. So they will most definately find you and fine you if they want
to!!
I think most cell phones ought to be ground into dust and deposited in the landfill.
I have one that I have had for over 6 years. I bought it for medical emergency use in case I needed help and was away from "the crowd" and away from a pay phone (a scarce resource these days).
In six years, I have made less than two dozen outgoing calls (none an emergency) on the phone and have received fewer than 3 incoming calls. I only turn it on when I need to call someone about something REALLY important.
I don't know what it is that so many people have to talk about anyway.
I suspect that most cell phones other than those used in business are bought for vanity and not for any other real purpose.
The one I have is a Sprint, for which I paid $150 (6 years ago) and pay less than $30 a month for a monthly maximum of 20 minutes of use - more than I have personally ever used in a given month.
I don't know if that plan is still available from Sprint or others, but it satisfies my needs.
The phone, which is no longer available, is larger than 3 or 4 current-sized phones, but since I carry it for medical emergencies only, it is not a problem for me. It must weigh 6 or 7 oz. with the battery - which will last for several years with only minimal and necessary - not continual - recharging. I don't leave it on to receive incoming calls so the battery lasts much longer than it might otherwise.

That same plan should be available now for ten or fifteen bucks a month. For $30 a month most people are getting 3-400 minutes. You'd be better off with a prepaid for much less money. Don't let the phone company screw you - they will never voluntarily lower your bill or give you more service.

I think you're being raped .....
6 years = 72 bucks at I'll figure 25 a month + 150 = 1950
you say you've used it for less than 15 calls... 130 bucks a call
I know the math. But I didn't get it to squawk into unless there was a real need.
I don't consider it on a per-call expense basis.
It's a little like insurance. It's very expensive if you never use it, but that's no reason to not have it.
If this cell phone continues to function, I will never buy another. I won't request additional minutes because of the cost because I don't need them, BUT I may check to see if they will lower the cost to less than I am now paying, thanks to Nitramjr's suggestion. The thought never occurred to me to ask.
I can't wait until July 2008 when hand held cell phones become illegal while driving in California. My small town is full of SUV idiots and soccer moms chatting on their phones, can count of 5 'em per/ mile.
Did see two wrecks in front of me this year alone, stayed to tell the cops what caused the accident.
I carry a cell phone, it's turned off until I need it.
I did see a cell phone get delivered into a restaurants saltwater fish tank by a pissed off diner. Said diner asked many times for this cell phone idiot to stop blabbing, the rude cell person said FU. Many people around this idiot I included were happy with the new silence.
I have a friend with a weird magnetic pulser he built that he can blast vehicles in front of him if needed while they are blabbing and driving. This pulser unit will kill the vehicles computer within 50', I believe the cell phone also.

I might get one just for emergencies, but I'll see.
If I get one I just want a real basic one and a real basic plan.
Anyone have any ideas on a cheap phone and plan?
Trac Phone is what we are going to use when our contract expires. I make most of my calls for business use, but the math still works out better with them instead of a contract.
