general economy file SCT.

I have been running matt's general econ tune w/ my converter locked for a few weeks now and one complete tank. I have been getting cold here in the AM and seeing mileage decrease quickly. console read at best econ 17.6MPG, hand calculated is only 15.9 now are console reading 17.1MPG. Anyone else running this tune and what are getting for caluculated mileage??

525miles for 33 gallons, I am going easy on it as well to seek best possible gains. Thanks

Damn I may have to pop it in.. I'm running about 32 gallons after vent cut on 29 gallon tank.. I get at best, 430-450 miles to a tank..

Strom I have a long bed, I am cuirios too see what others are getting from this econ tune, it has not been as good as it seemed when I first installed it. Less than stock it seems, but it is getting cold in the AM, 30-40*F so this wil affect it. Does have more b@lls than stock though...Seems like i used to get 16.5-17.4 on the console w/ the TECH6 agressive ST...Now I have TECH7.

So I should harpoon and get more in there then, the fuel lamp comes on and I never put in more than 33-34 gallons, it is supposed to be a 38gallon tank. I have to aerate the fuel by running it lower but would be nice to achieve 600miles like i used to on my 96-7.3L.

Oh heavens yes.. Cut those vent tubes.. It sped up my filling, actually lets me use 18 Wheeler pumps and fill up 33 gallons in a few mins.

I got 18.4 my best going down to FLA from VA and that was at a steady 75-85 MPH.

I would say two things:
  • Yes, harpoon the tank to maximize your fuel capacity
  • Using the performance tunes, I do not have a Matt or Eric tune, but get 15 to 16.3 MPG, on the computer and checked against hand calculated
The max performance tunes are the most efficent and if you keep your foot out of it, stay under 2100 RPM's, you will get the best MPG as well.

I can use the larger tractor pump nozzles, but getting more capacity would be nice.. great so now $120 to fill instead of 110!!

You couldn't be any more correct.. Most of our high end performance tunes are yielding the best MPG.. However we can't keep customers from putting their foot into it lol..

Strange how the ol' 6L reacts to power, instead it gives better fuel mileage and a lot more fun

it seemed to be better on the agressive st file, but I was hoping I could get more econ from a less agressive file. the 6.0l hates to advance more than -2.5* and if you take away ICP she loses power and economy..it is a tough thing to achieve it seems..

Lonewolftx, what performance tunes and where do I get them? I got my sct blank from "then" LIPD and have only had tunes from Spartan. I'm sorry to say that Spartan's tunes just don't cut it for my truck - It just plain runs better stock than with any of the tunes I have had - sorry to say, but that's how it is. I'm sure lots of people have good results, but I'm not one of them. I've thought about looking up Eric at Innovative, but the thought of dumping more cash for more tunes that also may not work just doesn't do it for me.

I am with you SuperV10, I seem to get the best mileage from the stock tune. As I said in another post a day or so ago, after putting the exhaust on and normal driving around here I was getting mid 17s with the stock tune and in the 16s with all the other tunes I tried. These include agressive street economy, ultra economy highway, stock plus, and general economy all from SDT. I was on the phone with Matt today and we are still working on it. As stated above, it's getting colder and that will have a negative effect and may skew results downward some. I had hoped to get in the 18-20 MPG range, a gain that makes the investment in the XCal2 worthwhile.

if your truck does not run correctly I think you may have read the PCM strategy incorrectly or Matt emailed you the wrong set of files, call him up and read him the strategy again..

I bought mine from a local dealer here in Houston. He takes the Stock tunes from SCT and adjusts them for our Hot, Humid climate. He is a member on FTE, Joe Cram, owner of Omni Motorsports.
