The Motor is Out!!!

I finally had time to pull the motor from my F-250 yesterday. Based off of the advise on this forum, I pulled the front clip off before pulling the engine, and I am so glad I did. That made pulling the motor so easy, my buddy and I were shocked at how little time it took us to get it done. On to the pics:
Front clip removed:

The motor is out!

The teardown begins:

A few things I learned. Definitely take off the front clip when pulling the engine in these trucks! It took us 45 minutes to get it off, and most of that was just figuring out the wiring mess that was on the driver side inner fender. Once the clip is off, everything is within easy reach, and we barely had to lift up the motor to get it out. Also, make sure to take off the flexplate before you bolt the motor to the stand. I didn't realize that this would be a problem until we got it in the garage. Now we'll have to yank the motor off the stand to get it off so I can completely tear it down. All in all, it was a great day of wrenching.

Without the front clip you should be able to power wash the frame and front axle and clean it up real good.

I'm headed the same way on the 75 F-250.

It's a parting out truck though.

The cab is almost completely bare.

Fenders come off once the weather warms up again.

I took engine out of mine by just removing the hood and radiator. I had a hydraulic engine hoist though. I rented it for like $20 for the weekend.

Yep most times you can do that but once you have pulled an engine on one of these trucks by removing the front clip you will never do it that way again. You will actually waste more time, climbing in and out of the engine bay unbolting stuff etc then it takes to pull the clip.
We did it back to back trucks one time, took almost 2 hours longer with just removing the hood and radiator then it did to remove the entire front clip. that was R&R pull it into the garage and start to time of pulling the truck out of the garage running, jsut because a friend of mine told me I was wasting my time pulling the clip.

I was limited in that I only had myself to do the engine swap. It was my daily driver at the time, and I had to hurry. I had someone help me line the flywheel upon installation, but after that it was all solo

I am putting a 460 in my son's 79 Bronco. Can you lead me in what bolts need to go to pull front clip off ? His truck has a 4" lift, having the front clip gone would make it a lot easier. Thanks

Removing the front clip was very easy. It definitely takes 2 people to lift it off once it's free. Hit all of the bolts with some PBlaster the day before to loosen up the rust. There's (2) bolts going through body mounts at the radiator support, (3) on each side at the inner fender to firewall mount, (1) on each side at the bottom rear of the fender, (1) on each side at the bottom of the inner fender connecting to the firewall (a piece of rubber connects the inner fender to the firewall), and (1) on each side at the back of the fender about halfway up the body (accessible from behind by opening the door and reaching in). Like I said the most time consuming part for us was figuring out the wiring on the driver side (mine was kind of a hack job). Let me know if you have any more questions. Thank you.

Also, make sure to mark on the firewall where the panels are being removed. This will help to line it back up later. Taking the hood off first makes it easier too.
