Possible CPS going bad?

Three times in the last week, my truck has "stumbled" abruptly, like someone shutoff the key - this lasts just a fraction of a second and causes a violent "jerking" of the truck - almost like you hit something or stomped the brakes momentarily. The CPS has about 70k on it so I suppose it could be near the end of its life expectancy.

I just checked for codes and there are none - even though I am running the Diablo Predator in the 60hp setting. I've also noticed a 1-2 mpg drop the last month - not a good thing as diesel approaches $3.50/gal. I'm making full boost around 22psi and the IC boots are clean and tight.

Thanks for the new part number - unfortunately, I have an "old" $80 spare sitting there that I'll install. I will use the new part number to get another spare.

Got the new one in and the truck still starts so couldn't have done too much wrong :-).

Not a job I would have wanted to have done on the side of the road at night in a snow storm! That old one was a tad stubborn to get out.

Guess now we just drive it and see if it helps.

Make sure you lube the o-ring before you put it in. Makes a much easier time on removal later. First time I did the CPS, it was a Bi*%$ to remove. I lubed the replacement CPS and when I removed that one to place in the New Gray one. it came out with no effort. 10 Minute changeout, with most of the time spent gathering the correct tools.

I agree with Dave. Took about 15 minutes in the driveway the first time. It lasted 135,000 miles. First problem was stumbling thing you described, then one day it died going down the highway. Started right back up but was pretty scary. Thanks to this forum I knew what it was and ordered two new gray ones. Runs like new again. Fuel mileage had dropped from 19 to 15. Its now about 16.5 after the install.

Interesting on the fuel mileage drop and subsequent increase - but not back to what it was. I'm hoping mine goes back up some as it dropped from about 16+ to about 14+.

Wish I had thought to lube that O-ring - I used a BHS (Big Hurkin' Screwdriver) to pry the old one out. Took about 20 minutes total time.

I dont know if the CPS really had anything to do with mileage, but the gradual decline from 19 when I got it to 15 this year was real. It did pick back up to 16 to 17, but I drive so much varied terrain its hard to know if its the engine or driving conditions. Just wish it was better mileage at $3.25/gal.

Amen - paid $3.53 for 21 gals this afternoon in Lincoln, MT - $74 (debit card cut off) and barely under a 1/2 tank! This is really going to suck as diesel keeps climbing!

I have an aux tank so have 99 gallon capacity. Have to give the cashier my credit card at truck stops to turn on the pump since almost all card readers stop at $75 or $100. My bill is running $250 to $300 per fill up. Keep telling myself I need to figure out how to make $300 every time I fuel up.
