Tranny Options

So I picked up a nice little early nineties regular cab shortbox 2 wheel drive. The tranny is screwed in it, and it came with a replacement AOD.

Now i have researched and i see the AOD tranny is a weaker tranny. Do i have options at all to beef it up, or replace it with a better tranny? Would I have to mess with the computer at all?

Beef it up. Options are a Chevy trans via an adaptor (maybe depending on your engine) or a 3 speed or a more expensive 4 speed OD.

And if you have an AOD E, then yes, your computer will wander about looking for it if you install an old FMX or C4....

i bleive there is also another one out of the 250 that is a much stronger trans

One of the links talks about using 4R70W parts in the AOD to beef it up, including lower 1st and 2nd gear.

Besides the 4R70w, you might also be thinking of the E4OD. That is a beast of a trans and requires a controller. No need to go there for this application.
