can anyone tell me how to get to the blend door on a 97 e 150. it's getting cold in pa. the heater hoses are warm, the floor, defrost controls work fine, and from what I've read on this forum, the door is the next step. thanks, john
The blend door is operated by an electric motor called an Actuator. Have saomebody run you're temp control cool to warm, and watch the Actuator to see if it's moving the blend door.
I had to fix the blend door on my '97 Clubwagon. The blend door motor can be reached on the passenger side, just under the dash. It has been awhile, I don't think you have to take too much apart. I did and attached a cable to the door so I can assist it if it gets stuck.
finally had a chance to look at it. I waited until it started to snow, wouldn't want it to be too nice out. found the door is broken where the motor shaft fits into it. time to go to the parts dept. thanks again, john
This post helped me figure out my blender door on my 79 e350, Thanks all! (and m1llion those are some great diagrams!) The armature had just slipped off the door, and well , the plastic cable stop by the door broke when I unscrewed the panel... I used a clip off of some spare part laying around and now I finally have heat! Thanks again!

Reason: typo
update, I went to 2 different Ford dealers, both told me I had to buy the whole heater assembly for about $200.00. I then went to NAPA for something different and ended up bitching about the assembly purchase. They had just the door the next day for $50.00. He said they make them aftermaket and called it a common failure part. Nice they have a name for it. Now I am waiting for the tool to take the heater core lines apart. So, still no heat, but getting close, maybe by spring
I picked up the heater hose disconnect tools to do this job on my '97 E150 and I found them to be pretty worthless. If you understand how the clips work in the disconnect, you can release them with your fingers and a little help using pliers and a long screwdriver. I re-used the clips and o-rings by cleaning everything up really well and applying a light coating of heavy silicone grease on the o-rings and the heater core tubes.
