help!!!! I am installing an offy intake with a holley 4bl carb on a 1985 Bronco with the 300. What do I do with all of the vacume lines that go from the one barrel carb to the vacume block on the valve cover. Can they be eliminated or are the being used to control the engine computer. The shop manual for the truck does not say what the lines are used for.I know that the power brake booster has to be rehooked up but what are all the other lines for?
You need to take a long hard look at the vacuum schematic for your rig. Like you mentioned there'll be a line for the brake booster, another if you have an auto tranny, a ported signal to control the vacuum advance, EGR, thermactor bypass valve, canister purge signal and source, PCV. If you have to deal with emissions you may need to get creative. Take pictures or draw good diagrams so you know how you start reconnecting things.
I do not have an auto trans and I do not have to worry about emissions. as for the scematics I still can not find them in the hayes or chiltons manuals. The distributer is not a vacume advance eather, it is electronicly advanced somehow.
Chiltons has six different diagrams in their soft back, "1973-1986 Ford Pickups and Bronco Repair Manual." It's a Grey color manual. I'm sure your computer controlled truck relies on some vacuum signals to run correctly as to which ones, I can't directly help (mine's a '79). Learn what you can about the diagram and how the vacuum hoses control different devices. You should already have a diagram on the hood, or radiator support, or valve cover to assist an inspector. Are you only swapping the carb and intake out? I assume that you're doing away with the EGR valve and plenum that the old single barrel sat on between the intake. Do you have a bypass valve and the long air tubes that run the length of the head with the air nozzles? There's a lot of different setups, depending on year and where it was sold. Try this Q at fordsix.com, the guys over there may have more input for you...it maybe easier to gut it all (if you can) and install a DII dizzy. Good luck!
With that electronically advanced distrubor, you need to change over to a Dura spark system, that ignition system works off a 02 sensor and a feedback carb. Which you be getting rid of instally all your new goodies. It is very easy to change over to the duraspark, the module plugs right in and all you need is to make up a harness for the Magnetic pickup. I had todo this, my engine was never advancing because I made th same mistake, runs alot better with the duraspark. I used a 1979 Ford 300 distributor I think it is 40 dollars, and the module is jsut a duraspark, which is like 20, don't forget cap and rotor!!! If you need a schematic i'll be happy to draw one out for u.
