I went offroading once and it fixed a blown tail light/turn signal.. didn't realize until I came home that it.. 'unfixed'.. all (but one) of my dash lights.

not taken off the dash to check why or to fix them, so I guess this post really didn't add much to help you, sorry.

I'm having a similar problem as well... thing is I've found the bad bulbs, I just can't find them at a store to replace them. Anyone know of a place online perhaps?

Well i checked the fuse again, glad I actually used a meter this time because it was bad. I replaced it with a 10 amp that I had, turned on the dash lights and it blew instantly. I relaced the headlight switch, tried it again and it also popped. I disconnected the dash from the wiring harness, same thing. Any suggestions?

Yep, someone has thought the Blue/red wire is used for something else.

Usual culprits are the ashtray light or the radio light.

Sorry you gotta pull the cluster after you check the ash tray light.

You must have been mistaken about the heater control lighting because it is all on the same circuit.

What? I'll check for someone messing with the radio or ash tray light, What do you mean about pulling the cluster after I check the ashtray light?

Most bad hookups are done behind the cluster.

Like stereo hookups.

But headlight switches rarely cause a shorting out of the intrument lighting circuit if at all.

Oh ok, well that will give me somewhere to start looking then. come to think of it I did see that someone had butchered some wires back behind the radio. I didn't think any thing of it and put it on my "someday I'll fix that too" list. (that was probably 2 yrs ago)

It could be as simple as the blue/red wire touching ground.......but usually turns out to be some did it on purpose because they didn't know what they were doing

Yep, your right Mil1ion, previous owner some how had the radio ground hooked to that blue/red wire. I guess that was supposed to go to the ashtray light.?(Which is missing) Now for your next quiz...... Gas gauge inop. test light at the quick connect in the rear at the tank shows a pulsating light. Is that normal? Keep in mind, I am using the same ground for the test light as the sending unit.(in other words I believe the ground in OK.)

Yes, In fact a 5 volt pulse of power.

3 regular things that happen to fuel gauge readings.

1) The sending unit loses its ground so it will no longer register or register weird levels

2) The float that reside on the arm of the S/U fills with fuel and sinks ..making a reading of empty

3) The ICVR located on the instrument cluster back loses its ground but this also affects other gauge readings.

Here are a few fuel gauge threads to read for more In-depth info.
