I started this topic in another post but now my question is on one item so here it goes
1984 Ford f-150
302 carb
duraspark 2
c-6
How do I replace the resistance wire for the module
what does it look like
thank you for reading this
sorry for the double post will somone let me know if it the wrong thing to do
You can put a brand new regular wire from the switch out to the firewall, and then go buy a Chrysler type resistor and mount it to the firewall and run the wire to it, and then out to the coil.
I am getting a voltage surge @ the coil + side
somthing is taking out ds2 module (cheap junk) but they have burnt 4 times in the last week
I wired a meter to the coil + and and a test light to the - side of the coil
ran fine till it started surge to 12 volts the the test light started flashing odd
and truck ran bad if i slowed it down the light flash pretty good but the module was toast still got the votage surge too
Pick up coil test good
and the coil test good
module bad

Resistors and resistance wire deteriorates the spark at the plugs by lowering your voltage. Today's more performance oriented ignitions do not require resistance.
If stock appearance is not an issue, take a look at our one piece D.U.I. Distributor. We curve each on a distributor machine based on your engine combination. Please see them at:
is it possible that your alternator is surging? lets say the resistor is supposed to lower 12-13 volts down to 8-9 volts. If the alternator was creating a surge your resistor may be reducing 16-17 volts down to 12. Just a thought as I agree that resistors dont normally short they open. another possibility would be a bad ground somewhere causing stray voltage to feed a higher voltage into your ignition circuit.

Actually I was thinking similarly but suspect a bad voltage regulator. Alternators tend to quit rather than surge.
