performance questions

I need some help. I am going to attempt hotrodding a inline six and I want you guys to check out my ideas. I figure I would go with a new ignition, new exhaust set up, headers, mufflers ect. new intake manifold and a new carb with a K&N Extreme flow set up. I would like to have someway to get cooler air into the engine but I am not sure how I am going to do that. I might try to rig some sort of ram air system. I of course will be changing rear end gears and hopfully adding an over drive kit if I can find one to match the transmission. Anyway, if any of you guys have done this kind of stuff please let me know it went. If you think I am going the wrong direction I kindly ask for advice. I am not sure about any of this really. Just ideas for now. Thanks.

You may wanna try getting an induction hood and rigging something up for the intake.

It is a 1978 f100 custom. Decent shape. only 73,000 miles on it. I have thought about something for the intake, but I am not sure which way to go with it. If there is more than one way. It is just something I don't know that much about.
