I know that this topic has been discussed before, but I can't get the shift lever out of park with the truck running..( 2000 3.0 4x4 ). It works when I have the key in the run position, but as soon as I start the truck, it doesn't work. What gives? The switch is working , I have voltage when I press the pedal, and otherwise it wouldn't work with the key in the run position. I hope someone can shed some light on this. I'm sick of starting the truck and then shut it off so I can put it in drive.
there is a little black box up on the brake pedel. jiggle it and see if it shifts out. chances are it got a little out of alignment and wont tell the tranny that you are on brake.
those used to be easy to defeat, just clip the black wire on the solenoid for the "brake-in-park" switch. they might be different now. ive did the mod on my wife's taurus ('93) and dads bronco & F250 ('96 & '94) did it to a '99 montana we breifly had also.
After starting, try pressing your foot on the brake pedal & holding it there, then try & shift into gear, what happens then???
I've done that, and still nothing. I've taken the switch off the brake pedal and have taken it apart. Nothin but a few contacts that come together to send voltage to the proper place. And yes the contacts are good. When coming to a stop with my foot on the brake, I shift into park, and can't get it out without shutting the truck off and putting it into neutral and starting it. I don't like cutting wires unless there is no other option. Thanks for the ideas guys.
