i checked my diferental oil in front and it was a brown is that a really bad color for that oil thanks

Is this on your 85 F-150????

Have you been following your owners manual due scheduled maintenance for fluid changes????
I'm not aware of any lubes specified by Ford that are brown in color, so if in doubt, why not flush it out real good & add some nice new lube in there. Bet it would appreciate it.

I belive Ford's recommendation for changing the gear oil in the diff is only every 100k in an 85 F150. Personally i think thats a little to long. I would go for 30-50k

Most GL5 gear oils are clear to a light green shine.That gear lube has been in there a little long.
