hard shifting... victory!!!

as they say, it's always the simple things.

ever since i got my truck in august it has been really really tough to slide into second, and pretty hard to get into third. down-shifting was impossible without slowing to a crawl and very gently nudging the stick.

today i changed transmission fluid and it shifts like new (duh).

surprising thing i found when swapping juice... there was 2 gallons of really muddy looking burnt smelling oil/fluid in there. the capacity on that case is 3.2 liters!

i wonder if previous owners kept topping up with treatments through the gear-shifter hole on top? maybe they thought the 3 was a 8 and dumped it in through the top? either way, i filled up to the bottom of the fill hole on the side of the case, and the 3.2l is accurate. is there any other reason someone might have purposefully overfilled it?

i am thinking that in a week or two i'll change it again to further rinse out any crap in there.

so of course i am wondering what damage had been done from ???,??? miles up to the 255k when i finally caught this. any ideas?
