Someone has cut the four wires on the drivers side of my C6 tranny. Can anyone tell me what they go to? I would assume (I hate assuming) that two wires are for the ignition cut-off (neutral safety switch) and that two are for the back-up lights. I put power to one of the wires and the starter engaged and scared the hell out of me. something is amiss here. Anyone know exactly where these wires are supposed to go? They run in a vertical string (top to bottom) right next to the gear selector.
The truck is an '86 F250 super cab lariat 2WD 460 (7.5L) c6 trans. And since I'm new to this truck, and to Fords in general I'm still trying to figure out which rear end is in it too.
your 86 should have a 10.25 sterling rear in it. count the bolts holding the rear cover on 12 bolts is a dana 60, 10 bolts is a sterling.
i can't find my wiring diagrams rite now, but give it some time, and someone will answer your question shortly.
Thanks tjc, you are right it's a Sterling 10.25 which according to a chart has 4:56 gears in it. Now I have to change the gearing as I am not going to use it for towing. It runs at 3,000rpm at 60 mph...way to high for me. I'm going to be looking for 3:73's as I need to use the truck on the highway quite often. Any thoughts on this ratio?
