i have a 4.9 L stright 6. Im having some serios carbureator probslems. It runs fine when cold but as soon as it gets warm, it runs ****ting. I have a remenaed 1 bbl carb on it. The carb has a climatic choke, (and i just connected a hose to the manifold from the choke housing.) It used to have an eltric choke on it though. But i went to climatic. Did i connect it right??
And keep in mind that i disconneted most the emmissions stuff. But i plugged up those vac lines.
Was does it do when it's warm? Idle rough or idle smooth? Hesitate on acceleration, or hesitates on hills only, but runs smooth on level ground? Any black smoke out the tailpipe? Does it cough back up through the aircleaner?
When it warms up, is it idling slower? If it is, then I would suspect a vacuum leak somewhere. Did the carb base gasket for the different carb seem to fit ok? You might need to take the carb off, and hold it above your head while you hold the gasket under the carb, to make sure the gasket covers everything up and leaves no leaks.
You can just go over it visually to check. Also, since you probably disconnected the egr valve, take the valve off and get a piece of aluminum flashing and make a block off gasket to make sure the egr is not leaking.
I JUST FIRED IT UP AGAIN COLD. and it ran very rough and slow. it was running fine (actually a little fast) when it was cold eariler.
I got a new fuel pump, and i was wondering if maybe it was pumping too much and forcing gas into the carb making it flood. Could i get a gas regulator? I dont know what to do.

That may be part of your mistake. Disconnecting the emissions stuff is rarely if ever a cure for whatever ails your engine as the whole system has to be redone to compensate...carb, timing, dizzy advance, etc., are all parts that make the system work as a whole. Every part of the system has to be adjusted properly with or without emissions in order for the engine to run right. If you don't know how to check for a vacuum leak (not difficult) how is it you know to start disconnecting stuff and plugging lines and expecting the engine to run right?

Look down the carb throat while the engine is running with a flashlight. If you see liquid fuel dripping into the engine, the yes it could be flooding. If you do not see liquid fuel, then you are ok on that one.
