Does your exhaust have tailpipes after the mufflers? Those help tone down the noise alot.

Start the truck later in the morning, or get her some earplugs! lol

I like the sound of Flowmaster 40's, but I am getting to like the Magnaflows more.

Funny thing is, I am getting to where I can't stand loud mufflers on newer trucks... They seem to be more at home on the old classics, like the 50's, 60's and 70's trucks! My last neighbor had a new dodge with an aftermarket exhaust. It just sounded annoyingly generic every time he pulled into the driveway at night. 'Blub-blub-blub-blub'. No character!

haha....i wish we didnt have inspections in VA, but...of course, tehy ruin all the fun by saying no exhaust modified to louder than factory......but somehiw thats never stopped my truck from passing the inspection, and it has glass packs

LOL.. it's funny, that 'generic' blub blub blub is exactly what I want from my F100.. I should know next week what it sounds like when I finish. I want no crackles or slight misfires which I know is next to impossible with a carb, but, I can dream.

Hey guys, I'm new to FTE and would like to say I have a built-up 390 in my 76 F-100 and I had two 40'' glass-packed mufflers on it and decided it was time for a change. A local muffler shop told me Flowmasters don't flow as good as others. I decided on Magnaflows 14'' case with their straight through design and have been very pleased with the sound and performance. I would recommend Magnaflow to anyone.

About 10 years ago, a local company tossed out a bunch of 3" 0.065" wall 304 stainless tube. Well I couldn't stand seeing it go to waste, so I TIG welded up a dual exhaust for my 79 F250. It has a fairly stout 420hp 460. I also happened to get two free 3" Riker school bus mufflers which I grafted in behind a balance tube about two feet back from the long tube headers I already had. The mufflers are straight thru glass packs, but they are almost 3 feet long, so the sound is not too loud, but it has an amazing low frequency rumble. I can usually set off car alarms within 50 feet or so by blipping the throttle. While waiting for someone at the mall once, I set off one car alarm three times. Each time I set it off I'd shut off the truck and wait for the guy to run out and turn off the alarm, then when he went back in the store, I'd set off again. Finally felt guilty and stopped. The 304 stainless exhaust is still looks like new after 10 years.
