Helo fellow I-6 owners. Would like some help on some homemade performace mods. I'm only 16 so at the moment the whole Crane Blueracer 270 cam swap and the such isn't gonna work out. Looking for more cheaper and simpler mod's for my 300. Such as exhaust, alot of exhuast's have been mentioned in diffrent streams but which ones would give me the most out of my truck. One more thing, air induction. The Straigt Six is real bad about gettin air in, like taking a deap breath through a straw. I've got a cold air intake from the stock air box in my '92. Yet there has to be more i can do, besides a K&N. Any, I mean, ANY suggestions would be appricated.
the 300 I6 is more a work engine than a race engine. There are mods for it but most are expensive as most people don't look for high pro. out of a 300. a 4 barrel and intake would rock on the 300 6 but then that isn't cheap
as far as home made goes trythe air indutcion and k&n
hey man welcome to the site!i too am only 16 but only for another month. i am looking at taking the muffler out putting in a flowmaster 50 series with a single in dual out and running 2 pipes straight out the back. which was orignally an idea i had for the intrepid.i do belive there is a ram air kit avalible from jegs. and this is jsut an idea. one that thers a 99% cahnce i wont do but...nitrous. and if u do that do it samrt and replace all the internals.
I am only 18 (19 in october), and i have also been looking for the cheapo mods. Unfortuantly, everything costs more these days, thanks to things like EFI and the like. Best things i can offer you are a home-made ram-air setup under the bumper, maybe MSD 6A ignition, or just a Blaster2 coil. Running straight pipes is good, and if you keep your cats, it wont be so loud that a cop will take a liking to flashing his lights at ya.
im 17 and im making my own cheap mods. im currently working an a cold air set up and replacing those intake pipes going to the manifold and some other trickery with the throttle body and restricting the ERG. if i was you i wouldnt run stright pipe. port the stock EFI split manifolds, then run 2.5" pipe going to a flowmaster muffler and a y-pipe and running duals. next try a MSD 6a ignition box and a TFI coil, TFI wiring harness and 8.8mm plug wires. also an injector swap would be good if u were going to do a cam swap, hell it would be a good idea anyways, try #19 injectors and a adjustable fuel pressure regulator. cam swap isnt that expensive but it will consume some time to install.
i am going to do all of these mods and a few more to my 93 in the ncoming months.
dont get the blaster 2 coil, unless you upgrade your ignition wires. when i installed the msd coil on my '82 f-150, the wires were cross arcing around 2k rpm. i'm 17 almost 18 in oct.

I'd say you already have the passing power of a v-8, if not more. The trick is to get your truck up to that magic point where HP & torque meet before shifting. Big tires are what kills this, so a differential swap might be the trick, of course then we're talking some serious $$$$. A good performance chip & a little more breathing would probably help though, like you say.
