driveline groaning
Hi,
My trucks making a groaning/moaning noise between 17-22mph all the time
whether my foot is on the gas or not. If I put it in neutral the noise goes away while at those speeds. And it does it in all gears(except neutral.)
Im thinking rear driveline like ujoint. Ive checked it though and my regular mechanic thinks the ujoints are fine(though im a bit unsure of his diagnosis based on some of his previous diagnosis). I dont feel any vibration when its groaning. Its been doing it for a good 4 months .
It sounds like previous bad ujoints i had .
Just wonder if any ideas what it might be?
Thanks
Pull the driveshaft and diagnose yourself. Often times the u-joint check (with driveline attached) checks out ok. But if you pull the driveshaft and take a look at the u-joint removed, you will see a tatered bearing on the joint not visible wiggling the shaft on the vehicle.
Make sure you have a large C-clamp to remove and replace the u-joints. If this doesn't fix your problem, at least you have new u-joints!
Cheers,
Mike
p.s. You might need an impact gun to remove the rear flange...depending on how much loctite is on those 12mm 12 point bolts.
