Just got my '07 F250 back from the shop. I had the Viper 791XV alarm installed. The truck remotely starts, performs the cool down, arms and disarms and all the other bells and whistles. One issue I am seeing is that the wait to start bulb on the instrument cluster does not turn on while the alarm is starting the vehicle. When I use the key the light illuminates fine and goes out like usual. While it starts remotely all the normal bulbs on the instument panel illuminate and then I get a "TBC fault" before the engine cranks. The wait to start delay is set to 30 seconds versus using that wait to start circuit.
Does anyone know where the glow plug relay is? I am thinking I can check for voltage at the relay to see if the glow plugs are being energized prior to startup. Is this possible? Anyone else have a remote start that shows the wait to start bulb when starting remotely?
Secondly, any thoughts on the trailer brake controller fault?
Looks like I am going to be chasing wires with the volt meter for a bit...
I can here a buzzing sound for about 10 seconds when either the remote start or key are turned on. Same sound you hear once the engine shuts down. Right sound?
The glow plug light isn't actually hooded up to the glow plugs. It reads temp, baro pressure, etc to decide how long the light stays on. The glow plugs will remain on for up to a couple of minutes even after the engine has started. I wouldn't be too worried about the wait to start light.
Pop the hood and listen when you hit the remote start. The two things you should hear would be the fuel pump humm & the glow plugs.
Just curious--should you wait until the glow plugs stop buzzing before you try to start? I started doing that the last couple of mornings and the engine seems to fire with less cranking. If so, maybe the remote starter could be programed to wait 30 seconds before cranking the engine.
I have yet to ever here a glow plug in a 6.0 "buzz". Also, the glow plug light on the dash has little or no relationship to what the glow plugs are actually doing, whether the GP module is on/off or cycling.
Thanks for all the quick replies. I popped the hood and remotely started the truck. I hear a ticking/buzzing noise for 10 seconds or so (assuming this is the injectors) then hear a slight buzzing until the truck starts (glow plugs??). When I start the vehicle with the key I hear identical noises.
Maybe the plugs are infact working without the dash bulb illuminating. Anyone have a remote start that can confirm WTS light?
I have the DEI Python remote start and my WTS light doesn't come on either whenever I use it. I have used it in temperatures from 10 to 99 without any problems. I'm using a delayed relay set to 10 seconds and the crank timer set to maximum (30 sec?) I timed the WTS light in colder temperatures and it was just under 10 seconds every time. The only problem I have is that it will sometimes shut off after starting and restart.
