I just put new motor mounts in my '84 F-150. When I take it out of gear, the truck rattles like hell! But only when the truck isn't moving (like at a stop).Everything is tight, I went around and triple checked all the mounts. I can't figure out whats going on!
You think that's rough? I used to own a '66 E-100 van after the 170(?) motor went bad (three camshaft lobes were in the crankcase rattling around) I pulled a 200 from a mid '70's Maverick but the motor mounts (if you can call them that) were just concial pads that mated to similar concial pads on the frame relying on gravity to hold the motor in place! There was not bolt one on the engine motor mounts:-staun It was the tranny that had a conventional crossmember that bolted firm. Well with this updated and more powerful engine I reckon you can guess what would happen when pulling a grade and I was too heavy on the throttle... The engine would shift! Not enough to put the fan through the radiator or cut the hoses, just enough to make you fret that the whole d*mn thing would fall out. At least it just took a scissors jack under the pan to set the 200 back on its haunches. If you think this is the wierdest thing you've ever heard I have some other stories about this van and its ilk. Good luck!
