unleaded gas in my diesel tank. OUCH! HELP

i accidently put regular unleaded gas in my new 08 6.4l. It was 15 gal. and unfortunately i only had a gallon or so left of diesel. I ran the truck for a couple miles before i realized what i had done. It started hestitating and then I had the gas drained and then filled up with diesel and put some diesel kleen in the tank. What kind of damage is done to my motor? It runs fine now but it's only been 30 miles. are there any long term effects i should be aware of? It seems like power has been lost. will it clean itself out? thanx in advance.

Draining the tank is what you do. Damage or outright fear may be your power loss. Time will only tell.

I'm so sorry.

A friend of mine did that a couple of years ago to his Dodge. He lossed power temporarily. In the long run though he lost his injector pump, due to the lack of lubricant in gas.

If you've already got the gas out, just double up on the additive for a couple of tanks to be safe. There's not a lot of experience with the 6.4's yet, but from what you describe the 7.3's or 6.0's would usually handle this without major problems.

Well if you figure on average 15 mpg and you drove 4 miles, you burnt approx .266 gallons, not very much fuel. now, your post said you put unleaded in your tank. Did you fill up or just put in a few gallons? What I'm getting at is, was the fuel mixed half and half ext?
If you drained all your fuel components like has been mentioned, you should be okay, But time will tell.

Hopefully you did no damage but only time will tell. If you didn't have the dealer do the drain etc. then there may be warrenty if something does break.

I don't understand why the truck didn't shut down. My 2000 model 7.3 did. I was told after I had the tank drained that there is some sort of sensor to make it shut off, preventing any damage that could be done to the engine.

Look at the bright side.....You'll probably NEVER do that again! I didn't.
