Unhappy looking for e4od

well its been a while since ive been on here since i dont have internet anymore. I will try to check as often as i can though.

It seems as though my front pump has gone out on my tranny.(At least the tranny shop told me that)(reason being is that fluid level was perfect, Then i noticed that my fluid was showing high, way high, without adding any) Then i was left stranded one day. Motor runs great. Tranny doesnt even move.

Of course im always on a limited budget(very, very limited) and i am now looking for a used trannyvery sad...

Can't the tranny shop just do a repair, change out the pump section. You can buy the rebuilt pumps on e-bay. I'd ask for an estimate on just doing a pump swap out!

Check the rad for a RED oily skim on the surface....... is the coolant low and the trans high.... Rad has a trans heater/cooler internally they have known to bust and coolant and rad fluid mate.

as far as the trans shop goes, they told me i might as well get it rebuilt if i was going to have to go through replacing the pump. I was quoted $1500-$2200. I may just look into the pump swap out though

I will check the coolant level. The trans sounds like something is torn up in it though. What would happen to the trans if coolant was run through it, Would it not make the truck move when in gear?

If the coolant ran through the trans, Would it make the trans not work(hopefully until it was flushed out)?

I had my E4OD go out last spring. I bought a Jasper rebuilt that came with new, larger lines and instructions that stated that I could NOT use the stock lines or coolers (radiator included). I've got 4,000 miles on it and no problems. It did cost about $2600 though.

Phoenix Hard Parts seems to have the best prices for rebuilt E4ODs, but if you can't afford a decent rebuild, then wait untill you can, the E4OD is a good transmission, but it has to be put together properly. If you have a no drive condition, it could be worse than just a pump, (R&R for $100 depending on source), and the whole tranny should be torn down and rebuilt now instead of spending more in the long run to have it pulled a second time if it fails again.

I learned the hard way that if something fails in the tranny, it sends debris throughout the whole thing, and it never is right unless it's torn down and cleaned up completely. I kept changing trannies using the same old torque convertor, not realizing they were not lasting because the torque convertor was putting debris in the replacement tranny.

I went to a local trans shop for a car I was working on, and asked them to price a rebuild if I took it out and brought it to them. They said it would be about $100 cheaper, but they would not guarantee the tranny. When I asked why, they said when they did the work, the cleaned the cooler lines and the cooler in the radiator to make sure all the debris from the tranny when it failed was cleaned out. If they did that themselves, then they would guarantee the tranny.
