push rods

so im disassembling my 390 and i go to pull out the pushrods and they're solid, as in no hole through the center. is this normal? i've never seen them before.

Yea, the rockers get the oil thru a oil passage in the head, look under one of the two center rocker shaft stands, you'll see the passage. This is the one everyone restricts with a Holley #90 jet to cut down on the flood of oil that gets up there.

so are these for solid lifters or just something you do to restrict oil? because this thing ticked like crazy when it was running.

The solid push rods were use with both hyd and solid lifters.

Hydraulic and solid cams on FE's use different pushrods. The hydraulics have a ball end, both ends. Solids used a cup on the rocker end. There was a different fix to restrict the oil to the lifters, that involved a restictor in the lifter gallery passages

If I recall correctly the solid lifter block were different. The lifter size (OD) were different.

Lifter sizes were all the same diameter. Solid blocks didn't have the lifter galleries drilled.

1958/1969 352/390's (& 1962/67 406/427's) with mechanical tappets (lifters):

B8AZ-6565-C .. Pushrod ~ 9.350" o/all length, one cup and one oval type end.

thanks for the help guys, i wasnt sure if the guy i got the truck from installed the wrong rods or not. i all ready bought new ones anyways.
