hey, quick question, i have a 97 f150 lariat 2wd, it has a 4.6 but has 5.4 heads is this like a high output model that ford put out? also what gears does it have because i find them sluggish, what would yall recommend to put?
Welcome to FTE fordillac! The `97 F-150 was the first model year with the Triton modular V-8 engines. I am not sure what you mean by your first statement, but the 4.6L was not a high output engine. You can identify the rear axle gears by looking at the axle code listed on the door jam label. Then click here to identify what the code means. Then someone will chime in with recommendations on what gears would be best.
there should be a sticker on the valve covers somewhere that have codes on them as to what size heads they are. i doubt it has 5.4L heads on it as the predetonation from the bigger domes would be a nightmare and there isn't any benefit to putting bigger heads on an engine = less compression and less performance.
oh p.s.
the lightnings had 3.73 gears in them. and the lightning wheels look bad ***! good luck! have you checked out i believe it is U.S. wheel that makes a 18x10 and 20x10 version in chrome? those would look even better
i jus had the inner fenders out while puttin on new headers (pain to put in but definetly worth the effort) and the heads have 5.4 stamps, thanks for the gear info!!
Performance Improved. They have larger intake ports, larger camshafts, and a revised combustion chamber that is more efficient. The also had different pistons to keep the compression ration the same.
2 questions, has anyone turboed a 4.6? if so what kind did ya'll use and how much boost?? also would mustang rims fit on a f150? people up here swear that they do
