I am considering buying a diesel within the 1999-2001 range and was wondering what would be too high of mileage to buy one. Friend told me I should get one under 220,000 miles. To me this is alot of miles I have a 1996 Dodge ram 1500 with 138,000 and that seems like it's getting up there. Any info would be great, thanks.
Go take a ride in Superduty with 200,000 miles then one with 100,000 miles if they have been taken care there is virtually no difference and compare them to your dodge. My F350 has 141,000 on it no rattles drives great ,there are quite a few people that have 500,000 or more miles on thier trucks. I just found a 2000 f250 with 225,000 miles for my uncle and he just a smil'n down the road.
really depends on what kind of maintenance, preferabally documented,towing,4-wheelin,etc. I've got 184,000 and would still tow heavy anywhere. These engines are tough motor-mules! There is a sight that will tell you what to look for. Someone will chime in shorty and tell you where it is. Good-Luck!
191,200 and still going strong on stock parts. added an edge evo, 6637, and a couple other goodies and it's running better than most people with trucks at 100k or less. I was weary about buying a truck with high mileage too but the guys on this site won't steer you wrong. These mules are just getting broken in at about 150k. Good luck!
got 251K miles and everything is still tight, and still on factory tranny, I have had truck since it was a baby at 10K miles and I am a stickler about maintenance. I have a binder under my back seat with reciepts for just about everything that has ever been done to my truck . Don't be scared of a 200K truck if the maintenance has been done.
252,244 on my big booty Judy. Started doing my mods at 190,000. Take a look at the thread below for some useful tips when you go shopping for your new to you 7.3.
