Yes, yes, its a Chevy problem but I have to use this truck for work and its my responsibility to get it fixed, so here it goes.
89 CK 3500 454 EFI Auto.
Just had the exhaust manifolds replaced and all new emissions equipment installed. Truck will sputter and die. This happens hot or cold. Sometimes it corrects itself, sometimes it doesn't. Check engine light does come on while its sputtering.
It has a Gas Master vacuum type guage on the dash, and when it sputters it gives the same reading as having the accelerator pedal fully floored. Yesterday when it died on me, I had to flood it to get it to start and apply constant pressure to the accelerator pedal to keep it running (normally it just starts back up).
Guy that did the work on the manifolds says that a plug keeps fouling and to let the truck warm up before driving. Followed the advice, problem is getting worse. I did put SeaFoam in the oil awhile back, and am planning on changing the oil over to synthetic probably today or over the weekend.
I'm wondering what the root problem of this is, if this is just a fouled plug how do I prevent it from fouling - is it a bad valve or is there a problem with the fuel or oil system?
No, I had a shop do all the work. It died on me once before I took it in, so I don't know if its related to the work I had done or not. Before we got the truck, it had only been driven 40 miles in a year and a half, things are bound to go wrong.
New emissions equipment such as? I had that problem several times with my 88 2.5L. First time was the MAP sensor, next was something else, the last time was the computer. Anybody like to guess why I hate chevy's. Good luck on finding the problem.
