Time to change the AF on my '05 diesel, and I was just wondering if I should just upgrade the Air intake or just replace the stock donalson AF (I beileve), with a new one? Can I buy this stock AF any where else besides a Ford dealer? what should I expect to pay?
Great site by the way, I have the '05 F250 SD Lariat and Iam happy with the truck thus far (32k), although not exactly thrilled with the mileage (12mpg).
I'm sure you can get them at most auto parts stores, but I imagine you are going to pay quite a bit more. I haven't needed to change mine yet, so I haven't checked prices locally, just noticed the online prices while I was looking for oil and fuel filters.
Stay with your stock air filter..........it's far superior to any aftermarket setup. Many folks here have spent hundreds of dollars on aftermarket set-ups only to switch back to stock
Ok now im confused, I thought Donalson was different than Motorcraft? as in 2 diff filter part numbers?
The OEM 6.0 filter is a Donaldson Powercore. The part numbers are different only because Motorcraft uses a different numbering system.
There are two styles of this filter however, the "Blue synthetic" media which is water resistant & filters slightly better (Factory installed) and the "White cellulose" media which is not water resistant but is slightly cheaper to purchase. Stick with the Blue synthetic media.
Also the Air filter element only needs to be changed when the "filter minder" indicates it is time. Filter minders have been used on heavy trucks and off road equipment for years. The OEM Donaldson Powercore filter can hold over 3lbs of dirt and can last up to 80k miles. Changing the filter prior to the filter minder indicating it is time is just a waste of your money.
The OEM Donaldson Powercore filter provides the best filtration on the market and flows more air than the 6.0 can use until you exceed 500+RWHP.
