Throttle linkage adjustment

'76 highboy with manual transmission and 300-6 engine.
Just had body work done which included replacing the floor pans.
The gas pedal doesn't seem to have the same amount of travel that it did, and the truck doesn't seem to have as much power as it did, and I'm pretty sure that the new floor pans are interfering with the accelerator travel.
My Detroit Iron manual has a section for 'throttle linkage' and they tell you to 'check and adjust' it at WOT, but they don't tell you how. I've looked all over both ends of the cable and don't see any provision for adjusting it -- just attaching it.
How do you adjust it for accelerator position?

Well start here !

disconnect it at the carb and then check the throttle cable for travel distance.

My 77 has a solid metal rod linkage for the throttle, to adjust it you just unloosen a nut and thread the rod in or out. I never saw an older ford truck with a cable for the carb, but most throttle cables arent adjustable. A rare few have some kind of adjuster built in them, but not many.

If you cant find any adjuster for the cable, one trick i've always done is just take the gas pedal out, and bend the rod that the cable connects to forwards or backwards depending on whether you want to increase travel or decrease it, then put the pedal back in and check where it's at. Basically just have someone step on the gas all the way, and make sure the primariy butterfly in the carb is opening all the way, and that it closes all the way when you let off.

Because it is a cable and not a rod linkage it may have got crimped and now the travel is restricted.

I'll see if I have an Illustration for him.

Well I took the cable loose at the carb, it has a ball-and-socket connection with a spring clip holding it on, and it comes right off. Tried turning the cable end 10 or so turns each direction, but it didn't seem to make any difference in the length that I could tell. Any other ideas? There's got to be some easy way to adjust this that I'm overlooking.
