99 Ranger issues
Ive got a 99 Ranger 4WD, a/t with the 4.0.
I went to work today, truck was running fine. I get to the parking lot and stop behind another truck and when I went to move, I hit the gas and the truck wanted to die. I parked and it sat 8hrs until I left to come home, and when I started it it would run a few seconds and then die while idling. Everytime I would try giving it some gas to get the RPM's up to keep it running, it would just sputter and die. Finally I get it running, let it sit idling for 10 minutes and drive off. I stop at a stop sign about 10 minutes later, hit the gas to take off and it wants to die but doesnt. As Im driving through town with my foot on the gas doing about 30, I can feel it jerking as long as my foots on the pedal. I was having similar issues before and a "mechanic" told me it my MAF sensor so he unplugged it and it seemed to run OK after that. Could this be related to the MAF still? It has yet to be replaced. I also seem to be getting very hard shifts from my transmission along with a delay in downshifting when I come to a stop.
Thanks in advance for any advice
Disconnect the battery for 5 minutes (to clear PCM memory) and then plug the MAF harness connector back in. Drive around a while and see if the CEL comes back on. If so, get the code(s) pulled immediatly.
A fuel pressure test should also be high on your "To-Do" list.
