Dies once after starting

The truck is an 89 and I start it up, and it will die once. Always does it. Then after it dies I can start it right up and it will run perfectly. Any ideas?

You let it idle for a minute while the computer starts up and the RPM's jump between like 500 and 1500?

Dies once after starting

I never touch anything. It dies a few seconds after starting.

An EFI engine shouldn't die or need "warmed up" like a carbed one after a cold start. Have you checked the codes? Your idle air control valve may also need cleaning.

I agree, check the codes.

That being said, of course i didn't check anything. I could have, and might still be able to, write your very same question/post. Two days ago I changed out my TPS in an attempt to fox it, but of course I haven't used it enough to report back. It seems like it might be helping though. (It also seems like it accelerates up just a little better, too, but I'm still wary about it. I regularly use fuel injection cleaners, but this is the first time for Sea Foam, and that might be causing the (somewhat barely noticeable) 'good' results for acceleration.)

I probably won't know until Thursday morning & Friday.

I do know that replacing my IAC valve did help catch lower RPM stumbles at idle upon startup - it would go down in RPM but then catch itself stronger than before. But even then I still had the start-up stall as soon as I got moving (seems to happen in colder morning weather? I dunno... ).

Best,

Nope, the TPS did not fix the stall. I do believe the truck accelerates a hair nicer though, but my cold startup stall is still there.

Mine happens when I let out the clutch, kinda like some part of my brakes were locked up, but I think I actually move a few feet and almost let the clutch the whole way out before it happens.

Let me know if you get yours fixed!

(for a list of stuff I've replaced on mine, while still having this problem, look to the description in my gallery) (this problem wasn't always there, either, so somewhere along the line something went to #####, but it probably has nothing to do with any of the items in my list since mine are new)

I'm assuming you're getting no codes. Is this occurring every time you let the clutch out from a stop or just that first time when it's cold?

Well, neither wes2k3 nor I have checked our codes yet.

I'm going to check mine later this week.

Mine is after I let the clutch out from a cold start, not sure what the original poster's symptom is.

My '93 with 111K is doing the exact same thing. The local garage mechanic says the intake on the FI system may be carboned up. I may try to change out the O2 sensor and see if that fixes it. Seems to run perfect otherwise. Please let mr know if you come up with anything.

stalling?

Is there any chance you're leaking enough gas someplace to get some air in your fuel line? I had this same problem w/ a car a couple years back. Acted the same.

Mine did that too, except on 2nd startup it would run rough for about 15-20 seconds or so. After that it was fine. I have another 300 in a parts truck that runs fine so I swapped the lower intake including injectors and regulator and that fixed the problem. I guess I had a bad injector or regulator or perhaps a warped intake.
