Hi, I am new to modern fords,EFI. What are the color codes to 86 bronco II-2.9 engine, 1 tank internal fuel pump. I think I have found every thing else. I need to test the pump in the tank. 4 wires red, black, yellow, and pink I think. Can I test the pump by running a hot wire to the pump power wire. Which wire, any particular procedure. The inertia switch was bad and is by passed. The bad inertia switch kept shutting the engine down-but it ran fine until you hit a bump and dropped the RUSTY ball. Now I can't get the pump running. Any suggestions please. If this is in the wrong place please advise me. thanks madamstn
The pink wire with the black strip should be power to the pump in the tank, Black is ground.
The yellow wire with the white strip should be the fuel level sending unit. Again black is ground.
You can test for continuity to ground to verify the color is right. (If the pump is fried it may give a false reading to ground)
No red shown in the diagram I have, Haynes manual. If you buy a manual buy a Chilton's.
thx, this one looks nice, but has been a operational nightmare I think some one steam cleaned it, and now the wiring harness connectionsn bounce around with corrosion to make spots fail. thx mark
I blew ever fuse in the hot line bypassed from the fuse panel just grounding to body. Need a big resister. obviously there is a spec sheet. I just can't find one. I will fry my meter. How big a resistor. The red wire is definitly hot. Any more info, I don't want to blow any thing expensive. I have a scout frame ans drive train But I sure don't want that much work. thx mark
Connect Your Ohmeter Across The Pump Motor Leads. If It Reads Zero The Motor Is Shot. If You Get A Reading And The Motor Still Doesn't Run Check For A Bad Ground.

You could always try the emergency method. Have someone try to start it while you bang on the tank shield with a rubber hammer. If you don't hear the pump run you are done. If it starts (the engine) and you hear the pump running great! But you will still probably need a pump. So don't drive farther than you want to walk. This method has worked for me several times in the past just long enough to get the vehicle to my shop. It has worked for me on a 89 Bronco II.
I lost the diagram, saw it for a minute the blip and gone. We had a storm a couple of days ago and have had a couple of blips since. Usually blows the modem, but now this time. I keep a spare, -loose 3-4 a year. thx m I got it
