Hey guys need some help here. I am sure this has been asked and answered on here but I am new to this section of the forum. I have a 05 6.0. Diesel. I am towing an 11k 5th wheel. When I had the hitch installed I am sure they put the cheapest brake controller in they could. (I was new to this and did not know what to ask). Any how my truck obviously did not come with the ford controller in it. Am I right to understand I can not install a ford unit because I don’t have the upgraded master cylinder? If this is the case what is a good module to install? I am tired of locking up the Trailer brakes while trying to adjust from highway to city driving. My current nodule just has a single light that gets darker the higher you adjust it. I hate this thing
Just get the Progedy and you'll love it. Available in a number of places...I got one for my old truck and it was the best thing I'd ever owned up till that time. The factory Ford unit is better...have heard it is made by the same people that made the Progedy .
I pull an RV, In fact we live full-time in one. I just bought a Reese POD, it was $44. It works great on my wife's Dodge D250. Controllers are like everything else these days LOTS OF OPTIONS & PRICED by OPTIONS. All you need is a controller that is made for the # of axles on your biggest trailer. Heck my F250 4x4 still has the old Kelsey-Hayes controller the one you hooked into the rear brake line. I just ordered another Reese POD for $44 from PPL in Houston Tx. Because the old unit is wore out. meaning I have trailer brakes or I don't, because the adjustment to set them is shot.
That's not true... they are priced on mechinism and on reliablity. You can get cheap controllers which use ancient technology which results in rough braking or other issues, or you can get a soft braking, easy to configure controller for a few more dollars. Once you break the $100 mark then yes, it turns into a features battle. But for sub-$100 you get a LOT more safety and reliability with every added step up.
Ford sells a kit to install the tow command system it includes a new master cyclinder For diesel and all dual rear wheel applications use kit 5C3Z-19H332-BA. For gasoline trucks with single rear wheels use kit 5C3Z-19H332-AA. cost is around $400 I have seen the kits on ebay also and you have to have dealer reprogram the instrument cluster to recognize the controller i did it to my 05 and in my opinon it was money well spent
